Philip DeFranco Show published 11/11/2020

My soul is sick, but thus far my body lives. Glad Philip DeFranco is alive, well, (and in my selfish view) producing content.

As for Hong Kong, yes it is terrible, but does not surprise me. China is a very old civilization that has for centuries (far longer than the U.S. has been autonomous) demanded loyalty, conformity and unquestioning service. Since the return of Hong Kong to China (in 1997), I have felt that what is happening now would be China's end game. Why did it take so long? China always plays the long/generational game.  They are patient, pragmatic and practical. Will what is happening now hurt Hong Kong 's economy, sure it will. However, before bemoaning China's financial future remember who makes almost all of our medical supplies, medication, clothing, tech and now even big blockbuster movies. They will be just fine. As for freedom and the state of this planet, those pages have not yet been inked in.

U.S. National Election November 3 2020

I agree with Conan and Nicolle Wallace. I have never been angry at Trump as he is an undiagnosed and untreated sufferer of a severe personality disorder. What is more of a deep hurt is the behavior of most members of the Republican party who allowed themselves to be so obviously used to spread ignorance and chaos. However, I am most angry at myself, I used to vote for the best person for the job whether Republican or Democrat. I am no longer that person.

The Mandalorian -- Season 2

Season 2 will have 8 episodes

As of November 7, have only seen 2 episodes

(1) The Marshall

(2) The Passenger

It is so hard to rate just one episode as it is only one of a series of 8 parts. I will say that I am happy with Season 2 thus far. I feel that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are piloting this ship on a more coherent path than certain other Star Wars films have traveled...and they are doing it in great style.

This movie has SO many cringe moments, but it did make me laugh which is no small unimportant achievement these days. The infamous cringe scene towards the end of the movie to me is more telling by what the individual says rather than the rearrangement of said individual's attire.  I watched this as a "double-feature" with The Trial of The Chicago 7. It only took a few keystrokes to travel from Amazon Prime to Netflix, but I still miss movie theaters.

Performances and pace in The Trial of The Chicago 7 made this movie worth the watch. I  appreciated the insertion of some actual news footage, although it was very hard to view. Does this movie break new ground or highlight new facts concerning this case, probably not. However this movie makes a better impression than certain cringey Hollywood videos or even more cringey Twitter feed. Since humanity has a habit of forgetting history's lessons, perhaps this movie does matter and is relevant.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor

a 9 episode mini-series on Netflix (October 2020)

I did not really binge this one. It took 2 - 3 days of watching. What made this series lingeringly scary was kind of due to the effect of our pandemic. Forgetting what day today was. Forgetting if I had already completed a certain routine task. The chill that I still feel after just finishing this series, then switching to You Tube. Ironically enough, an Adam Sandler ad (Hubie Halloween) popped up just as I checked the thumbs up on the Netflix screen on the closing credits of The Haunting of Bly Manor. Perhaps spending time with a virtual Mr. Sandler will calm my nerves or at least change my mood.

Ratched (on Netflix - 10/2020)

posted this comment 10/04 to Stoned Gremlin Productions on You Tube - video uploaded 10/04/2020

I tried watching Ratched, but bailed during the early portion of the series/movie (the first bathroom scene). My impression is only based on these few minutes plus trailer. During the early portion of the pilot episode, a priest with a very familiar last name opened the door and admitted an absolute stranger into the clergy house. Immediately a treatment for this prequel flashed into my brain. It was not an entertaining or effective treatment of Nurse Ratched, the early years. However looking at the set and fashions, now I am curious. By watching more than 60 seconds, I have already added a counted view to Netflix's analytics so why not, it's "free".
