Molly Burke You Tube Video - 12/31/2020

Posted this comment to Molly Burke's channel - episode uploaded 12/31/2020

It is sad that anyone needs to apologize for feeling pain, especially in 2020. Social media can quickly descend to the depths of a mob mentality ironically by the few. No one should have to apologize for their pain. My hope, my resolution (I do not mind skipping the usual resolution failures regarding eating healthy, exercising daily or being more outgoing) is that we will show others the respect and kindness that we each need along with supporting programs providing economic assistance where needed. THANK YOU to Molly Burke, for continuing to provide content and selflessly helping all of us make it through our very long day.

Tom Cruise Outburst on Mission Impossible 7 Set

This comment was posted to You Tube Video - Tom Cruise Tirade Analysis - uploaded by Dr. Todd Grande 12/20/2020:

Tom Cruise along with being a leading actor on MI 7 is also a producer on that set. It is that second job which I believe lead to that tirade. Tom Cruise is an excellent actor who feels that Scientology has given him the skills to mold and to manage people. While I have absolutely no evidence, only my own hypothesis, I believe that was not ranting, that was acting. Whether his motives were altruistic or financial, whether he is empathetic or not, looking at the amount of social media buzz and news articles, I think that he feels that he succeeded in this effort at motivation. He may be correct.

Pandemic 2020

This comment was posted to a You Tube video -- Mütter Museum of the College of Phy. of PA 12/11/2020:

A new Nobel category should be created for the individual who develops a procedure to successfully convince a majority of humanity to follow the science, discriminate between lies and truths without emotion or prejudice and realize that the scientific method allows for the acceptance of a result that may disprove the hypothesis (step 3 of that method) after multiple tests by multiple sources. In other words, that old but accurate trope, "...try, try, try again". Use of hallucinogenic/addictive drugs, lobotomies and physical/mental torture will not be acceptable as research methods to qualify applicants for this prize..

After being in quarantine (voluntary due to impaired immune system) since March 2020 and watching the infection and death stats rise, fall and rise again my sense of the world not repeating this pandemic mistake is hovering weakly between optimism and pessimism.

BTW to (with all the acuity of a quarantine brain; mine) quote a line I heard re-used in a Marvel movie (Thor, 2011), "Magic is just science that we have not yet learned." Hence both Caitlin Doughty and her sister/aunt, Anna Dhody are both witches AND scientists.

Philip DeFranco YouTube video - uploaded 12/09/2020

My comments to Philip DeFranco Video

My comment made on 12/09/2020:

My interaction is more with Twitch gaming. However I am more of a spectator than participant. It is fun though, on a live stream, to catch something significant in the background that the player(s) did not notice. I have been watching a lot of Among Us on Twitch, but to be honest my interest is waning. It is more of a fun party game among friends than anything else.

On all these election lawsuits, I would love to know the endgame. I cannot believe that all these individuals believe in what they are doing or that they can succeed. Is this a way to expand their coalitions for 2024? Many individuals have made a quote on democracy and those who wish to make it disappear. I like this quote by Frederick Douglass, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress." Perhaps democracy is not a static thing, but one that requires a lot of maintenance and attention. If we ignore it or walk away or take it for granted, it does indeed disappear.

Doctor Mike Apology

My (12/05/2020) comment below posted to: Observe You Tube channel -- video uploaded 12/04/2020

Doctor Mike is embarrassed as his behavior went contrary to his inner view of himself. However based on previous videos that I have viewed, at least from 2019 on, his apology, practiced or not, indicates he is self-aware and wishes to be better. As for posting the video on his secondary channel, Doctor Mike may have wanted to apologize to only those who are long-term subscribers.  Many apologies posted via social media on a wider scale seem to aggravate not alleviate controversy. Just a general observation of Doctor Mike, he is smart, but he is also a people pleaser and someone who is uncomfortable with conflict. While not a valid excuse, especially for a Doctor, back home with his friends and family, I am guessing he just did not wish to say no. Growth is sometimes painful, but is a necessary process.

Elliot Page - John Campea Video Essay

John Campea You Tube Channel - Elliot Page Video uploaded 12/03/2020

My comment posted on 12/03/2020

I wish there was another term instead of "dead name". It has an unhappy vibe, probably due to the "dead" portion. Why not just use: former or old or past or maybe just check a Thesaurus for more ideas. Whoever Elliot Page is now, Ellen Page is a part of the experiences that made and evolved into Elliot Page. Humans are a composite of what we were, what we are and what we wish to be. So let's go back to complaining about the economy, mishandling of this pandemic and if a certain individual living in a White House will be served an eviction order (my bet is on midnight January 20, 2021).

The Crown (season 4 - 2020/Netflix)

comment posted to Observe on YouTube episode uploaded 11/19/2020:

Along with probably everyone (except the Windsor royals), I noticed the discomfort and lack of emotion during this interview. However, until this video I had not noticed how much Diana was trying to make herself look subservient, subdued and even physically small.  As for Prince Charles, growing up royal is its own lifetime PR lesson. No doubt he was even given a list of possible questions from his staff to allow for his study. It is all so sad. The marriage of Diana and Charles should never have taken place.

As for this video's copyright strike, I would love to have the reasons explained to me by mega-studios, streaming services and especially YouTube. I cannot understand how these entities do not see these videos as free advertising, free PR and and ultimately beneficial whether positive or negative. Usually people only remember the "buzz" not the facts. As recent history as proven countless times, we humans have short attention spans and even shorter memories.

Philip DeFranco Show published 11/11/2020

My soul is sick, but thus far my body lives. Glad Philip DeFranco is alive, well, (and in my selfish view) producing content.

As for Hong Kong, yes it is terrible, but does not surprise me. China is a very old civilization that has for centuries (far longer than the U.S. has been autonomous) demanded loyalty, conformity and unquestioning service. Since the return of Hong Kong to China (in 1997), I have felt that what is happening now would be China's end game. Why did it take so long? China always plays the long/generational game.  They are patient, pragmatic and practical. Will what is happening now hurt Hong Kong 's economy, sure it will. However, before bemoaning China's financial future remember who makes almost all of our medical supplies, medication, clothing, tech and now even big blockbuster movies. They will be just fine. As for freedom and the state of this planet, those pages have not yet been inked in.

U.S. National Election November 3 2020

I agree with Conan and Nicolle Wallace. I have never been angry at Trump as he is an undiagnosed and untreated sufferer of a severe personality disorder. What is more of a deep hurt is the behavior of most members of the Republican party who allowed themselves to be so obviously used to spread ignorance and chaos. However, I am most angry at myself, I used to vote for the best person for the job whether Republican or Democrat. I am no longer that person.

The Mandalorian -- Season 2

Season 2 will have 8 episodes

As of November 7, have only seen 2 episodes

(1) The Marshall

(2) The Passenger

It is so hard to rate just one episode as it is only one of a series of 8 parts. I will say that I am happy with Season 2 thus far. I feel that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are piloting this ship on a more coherent path than certain other Star Wars films have traveled...and they are doing it in great style.

comment posted to moviebob You Tube channel (10/27/2020)

This movie has SO many cringe moments, but it did make me laugh which is no small unimportant achievement these days. The infamous cringe scene towards the end of the movie to me is more telling by what the individual says rather than the rearrangement of said individual's attire.  I watched this as a "double-feature" with The Trial of The Chicago 7. It only took a few keystrokes to travel from Amazon Prime to Netflix, but I still miss movie theaters.

Performances and pace in The Trial of The Chicago 7 made this movie worth the watch. I  appreciated the insertion of some actual news footage, although it was very hard to view. Does this movie break new ground or highlight new facts concerning this case, probably not. However this movie makes a better impression than certain cringey Hollywood videos or even more cringey Twitter feed. Since humanity has a habit of forgetting history's lessons, perhaps this movie does matter and is relevant.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor

a 9 episode mini-series on Netflix (October 2020)

I did not really binge this one. It took 2 - 3 days of watching. What made this series lingeringly scary was kind of due to the effect of our pandemic. Forgetting what day today was. Forgetting if I had already completed a certain routine task. The chill that I still feel after just finishing this series, then switching to You Tube. Ironically enough, an Adam Sandler ad (Hubie Halloween) popped up just as I checked the thumbs up on the Netflix screen on the closing credits of The Haunting of Bly Manor. Perhaps spending time with a virtual Mr. Sandler will calm my nerves or at least change my mood.

Ratched (on Netflix - 10/2020)

posted this comment 10/04 to Stoned Gremlin Productions on You Tube - video uploaded 10/04/2020

I tried watching Ratched, but bailed during the early portion of the series/movie (the first bathroom scene). My impression is only based on these few minutes plus trailer. During the early portion of the pilot episode, a priest with a very familiar last name opened the door and admitted an absolute stranger into the clergy house. Immediately a treatment for this prequel flashed into my brain. It was not an entertaining or effective treatment of Nurse Ratched, the early years. However looking at the set and fashions, now I am curious. By watching more than 60 seconds, I have already added a counted view to Netflix's analytics so why not, it's "free".

The Debate - National Election

comment posted on 09/30/2020 to Philip DeFranco video uploaded on 09/30/2020

I did not watch the "debate" or whatever the was I saw in news clips.  I knew the "debate" would be useless, pointless and migraine-inducing. Do I have ESP you ask? Nope, the past 3 3/4 years have contained more than enough data to be able to make an accurate prediction. In a true debate, there would be discussions on current and future pandemic management, medical insurance costs/coverage, police reform, economic assistance for small businesses and individuals.  Proposal, all Americans (me included) watch or rewatch the 1959 film, The Mouse That Roared. Now picture Canada in place of the U.S. in that film...let's make it happen. Seriously VOTE November 3 2020, because voting is our only hope.

Enola Holmes (2020) Netflix movie

comment posted to YouTube (Breakfast All Day) video uploaded 09/25/2020

Thank you headed right over to Netflix. This seems like a movie to occupy me without depressing me. I have given up on my Matrix hypothesis, no proper AI would ever run our current scenario. I do enjoy this channel. If we ever get affordable medical care I will head over to Patreon for an additional show of support...not much of a promise, sorry.

Just saw Enola Holmes. Totally agree. Although some "mysteries" were obvious, the actors, set design, soundtrack and editing were on point. Sorry Alonso, I liked Enola breaking the 4th wall, admittedly with a less gifted performer it might have become grating.

comment to Breonna Taylor segment

Were I a citizen of Louisville, KY I would appreciate a step by step listing of all the changes that will go through their police system, including but not limited to psych evaluations of individuals before entering the academy, non-lethal methods of force taught at the academy, an evaluation of the chain of command at the police stations and higher, along with removal of combat/insurgent weaponry and vehicles from police stations. That speech by the Kentucky AG did not contain much except platitudes and a retelling of the event. The sole charge being leveled is at one officer basically for being a bad marksman.  I hope that the anguish and anger at Breonna Taylor's death channels itself into changing the system by replacing those who were elected or appointed as caretakers as they have been proven to be abject failures at their jobs.

Proud to be one of those 47, although judging by the amount of comments I challenge that figure even as I exude false hubris. Anywho, regarding the way schools should be set up and the USPS funded why reinvent the wheel. Where is the U. S. pandemic response team that you know who fired back in 2018? Maybe they would have some valuable input? Where is the concept of compromise, schools need a plan set up to shorten the school days/weeks for this time without vaccine. They need help from a centralized well-informed non-partisan group of scientists and psychologists. While it might be easier to find a living dodo (extinct for several centuries) in Washington DC, compromise and support is what we need. Having a Trump top contributor at the head of the USPS is rather depressing albeit predictable. One thing that Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr.(probably the de-facto U.S. leaders, may the creator help us all) need to realize the venn diagram linking Trump supporters and those dependent upon the USPS for many things in addition to mail-in voting is quite large. So everyone needs to get a dose of reality and work for the people, ALL of them.

It is hard to decide which is worse the factual ignorance matched with purposeful confabulation (aka double-fail) of our leaders or the fact that U. S. citizens are expected to believe it all.

My comment:

I am reserving my anger for governmental officials who are lazy, incompetent, narcissistic and basically brain-dead. Singers and other entertainers are not THE problem. I can appreciate the need for national security (aka ByteDance), however when it becomes a smokescreen to obscure ongoing problems (aka unemployment and COVID) I just wonder....  The Lebanon situation is more than sad as they (as do we in the U.S.) appear to be in a loop of: disaster occurs, ignorance shown, corruption uncovered, apologies made, restructuring put in place...then back to step one of the loop. Argh, I think that Philip DeFranco is going to have to make a more nihilistic merch line.

Response to a comment on same video:

Sad how no one realizes that the world is not filled with places that allow that freedom of choice. So yes, if it upsets you turn it off. Yoda may not be real, but the message is: “Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger… anger leads to hate… hate leads to suffering.”

Due to a lack of effective leadership in Washington DC, we have 50 states with wildly divergent levels of infection and death from COVID-19. Betsy DeVos has not been very helpful (https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2020/07/12/do-what-i-want-betsy-devos-tells-school-districts-trying-open-2020-2) in giving us a workable program for school re-opening. By default it falls to each state to set up a tracking system for the spread of this disease, balance with the stats and re-evaluate schools being open at a central meeting several times a week. I disagree about a blanket (send all the children back to school) edict. As was said in this video, a hybrid of in-school and at-home learning is necessary. After decades of increasing pupil quantity per class, now we have to jump backwards to class sizes of 15 (perhaps 20 depending on room size) students per classroom. Ironic, sad and this situation we find ourselves in did not have to happen. We (the U.S.) need to swallow our pride and study how other nations have coped with this situation and not try to waste previous time "reinventing the wheel".  THANK YOU Doctor Mike for another invaluable video. Logic, science and patience seems to be in short supply along with COVID-19 infection and antibody tests.

Ordinarily for a sports team, I would suggest the state bird or something pertinent to that state. However, since this is a Washington DC team and home to  countless politicians, lobbyists, and attorneys one word comes to mind, "Spinners". When I think of Washington DC, truth and intelligent discourse is (unfortunately) not what comes to my mind. I am not so much outraged about where Mr. Stone will be spending the remainder of his life. What bothers me is the control the office of the president over what should be separate and independent judicial matters. Sadly the Dr. Fauci spin (see what I said earlier), will convince the Trump acolytes while making the rest of us just shake our heads. All I can say is VOTE on November 3, 2020 (USA national elections).

RE: ideas for future videos.

Possible Topic #1:
State's rights vs. Federal  rights as in what trumps (pun absolutely intended) presidential over gubernatorial in something like, well let's say a pandemic with medical and economic factors being tested.
Possible Topic #2:
You open up a box of what you think are legal pads, instead a Judgy Jinn pops out and gives you THREE wishes with the only stipulation is that they have to be legal in nature. What 3 legal things do you wish for (can be global, U.S. only, the universe (as in law applicable off-planet as Elon Musk may be planning a Martian vacation).
Possible Topic #3:
Trial by jury vs. Trial by judge.  Positives and negatives.
Possible Topic #4:
How to behave as a juror and/or as a foreperson (BTW how does the person leading the jury get chosen? In cinema it seems so random.)
Possible Topic #5:
Impaneled Juries - necessary or punitive (as in jurors are so tired and stressed they will be less than thorough in deliberations).

Artemis Fowl

Watched on Disney+ streaming service June 13, 2020.

This comment was posted to Dan Murrell's June 12 video channel on June 13 - 14 2020

I,  like probably thousands of others,  bought Disney+ to see The Mandalorian. When I heard about this movie being made (seems SOOOOO long ago), I read the first (it's a series) book. It seemed like it would lend itself better to an animated series, but whatever, I had hope. Since I already pay for Disney+ I will satisfy my curiosity and watch Artemis Fowl, however my only liquid of choice will be a latte.

Just saw the movie. Without reading Book 1 (or its wiki), this movie is a mess story-wise. The editing is VERY choppy. I was shocked to see it was directed by Kenneth Branagh (#ReleaseTheBranaghCut) who is an expert director and actor so it is hard to believe that he had no control over the final cut. In an alt-Earth world of Hollywood legalities who knows. My final impression is that Artemis Fowl is not a movie, it is all the illustrations ripped out of the book turned into video images. One is left with interesting images, but no story. Josh Gad's "Hagrid-lite" did not bother me. I had rather imagined him with a deep gravelly voice when I read the novel. The characters were definitely "softened" in their temperaments which weakened their presentations on screen. However the actors themselves seemed to be doing a decent job with the material they had. Too bad, this could have been a great Netflix (or of course Disney) series. Sad.

--------------------------------                      ----------------------------           -------------------------------

I only read Book 1. Basically the movie is only illustrations (aka unconnected scenes) from the novel with none of the world building and strong personalities.  Artemis Fowl (the main character) has undergone a transformation from sociopathic genius to a slightly on the spectrum genius with strong loyalties to his father and a few new friends. Perhaps that is how his character evolves in the book series? The actors all tried, but the movie is a choppy mess. The most shocking thing to me about this movie is that Kenneth Branagh is the director.  I know that Jeremy Jahns was joking, but seriously I would love to see the Branagh cut.

Internet Today -  uploaded 05/29/2020 to You Tube

my comment:

While I am glad to hear that those Minnesotan police officers were fired and at least one charged with committing a crime, they are only a symptom of this scourge. To get to its source, examine the superiors of these individuals in their local station, Minnesotan lawmakers and academy methods of screening and training cadets. My hypothesis is that self-control, martial arts and decision making skills are not properly taught or absorbed. Judging by all the recent examples, this hypothesis can be applied to most of the U.S.  Prejudice is part of it but the major problem is giving the power of a badge and a gun to individuals who should not be put in that position.

My Favorite Movies

My favorite movies are mostly deep, dark, fantasies and my reasons are not as erudite as Dan's. In no particular order some of my favorites are: Wuthering Heights (1939), Rebecca (1940), Jane Eyre (1943), The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) Rear Window (1954), Seven Samurai (1954), Vertigo (1958), North By Northwest (1959), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Blade Runner (1982), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Fifth Element (1997), The Matrix (1999). I am leaving off any 21st century movies deliberately as I still need time to mull them over.

Coronavirus -  COVID-19 (aka SARS-CoV-2)

March 30, 2020

There is more fiction coming out of the White House (Dr. Fauci excepted) then in the entire inventory at Amazon's book department. Ashamed to say I watched Trump's reality show, The Apprentice, for about 2 seasons, I found it funny. However now I find it chilling. The confabulation, pitting team members against each other, demoting successful team leaders while appointing the weakest link as new team leader, boasting about his ratings and making up reasons in the infamous, "you're fired" segments. Sound familiar?

Late Night with Seth Meyers - You Tube published April 2, 2020

I had heard about the broken generators , oops I mean ventilators. being shipped to states like NY.  I did not realize that the repair contract had been canceled by, SURPRISE, The Trump administration.

I know that the comment attributed to Marie Antoinette "Let Them Eat Cake" may not be true, but its meaning concerning the incompetent and clueless aristocracy of France in the late 18th century, seems eerily repeated in Trump's comment about wearing scarves as protection against a virus.

Jimmy Kimmel's Quarantine Monologue -- posted 05/12/2020

While I had always assumed Pence was joking, what I found really amusing was Pence pushing the cart containing some "real" boxes maybe 6 or 7 feet from the back of the van to just outside the doors to the building.  Forget the empty boxes, photo ops are for re-election campaigns not pandemics. Photo ops do not:  help the sick, develop a vaccine for the healthy, alleviate the pain of those who cannot breathe or assist any one financially due to job loss...because THEY ARE PHOTO OPS. The height of the cluelessness was asking for a public apology from Jimmy Kimmel instead of trying to prove the competence and compassion of the current U.S. administration. They just don't know and worst of all, they just do not care.

My 02/26/2020 comment:

Restraints did not appear to be necessary, at least per the video shown. The child did not appear to be a danger to anyone, including herself. That arrest was beyond an insane response to a child's tantrum. The officer probably felt an arrest was the only way to protect himself from a civil lawsuit as he no doubt knew that Florida did not have an arrest age limit (obvious from his discussion of his arrest record). Finally, why was this even reported to the police, and by whom? Never heard of Jaystation and am now sorry that I have. I do feel sorry for those vacationers trapped on the Diamond Princess (or any cruise ship) as I read in another comment these people were sitting confined to their rooms. They were basically  in a floating petri dish. I do not know what else could have been done for those vacationers at that point. WHO and all nations must be more vigilant  in noting the arise of any virus and encourage inoculation by providing them free. While this particular virus was not expected, hence the adjective "novel", the birth and growth processes of COVID-19 are predictable and not novel at all.

Watch this movie on the biggest, best screen available. While the story is excellent, the acting involving and the soundtrack impressive, the cinematography is spectacular deserving of a huge screen.

Birds of Prey (2020)
(And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
R
1 hour 49 minutes

Saw at theater February 7, 2020

This movie was literally a trip to a carnival. It was fun, colorful, exciting and even had fireworks.

I also noticed that the plot with the requisite McGuffin was simple, but the acting (especially Margot Robbie, Ewan McGregor and Rosie Perez) was so vivid , along with the cinematography and set design, that I was entertained. This was comic book movie that only desired to entertain, keep you turning its pages (aka scenes). This movie did not aspire to win an Oscar. For me, Birds of Prey deserved a better than passing grade, my choice is B-. The minus is due to the movie's short length resulting in the lack of backstory or dialogue for some of the secondary character and the primary villain. I did not IMDb her yet, but I would love to see Cathy Yan directing a lot more films.

All fight scenes should have glitter, confetti and color-smoke bombs. This was a fun, entertaining movie and even if the McGuffin was ordinary, nothing else in this film was. I would love to see future projects directed by Cathy Yan.

This movie is colorful, outrageous, chaotic, oddly charming and the best characterization of Harley Quinn (better than Suicide Squad) by Robbie yet. I have read/watched some negative reviews. A concept probably not popular on Twitter is that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Martin Scorsese aside (do not tweet him PLS), this is a fantastic (dare I say "Fantabulous") movie, hope there will be more.

Birds of Prey brought the comic book character Harley Quinn to life for me. The look in Margot Robbie's eyes when her character was about to do something really crazy or talk without a filter was hysterical. The CGI "pet" (at least I HOPE that it was CGI) also enhanced the theme that only certain asocial humans or  wild creatures are attracted to and semi-tamed by Harley. I do have one question about a scene in the movie where a building was beautifully lit where in reality it should have been dark and dusty. However it must be the the magic of this movie that  prevented that question from penetrating my consciousness until I got home.

Harley Quinn's fame as a character is mostly among DC comics fans and comic con cosplayers. I had wondered why this film was being made. However, I am willing to bet the monetary performance was not a huge surprise at DC. I think that this movie was made for all the obvious reasons, plus added PR for Suicide Squad 2 and a possibly leg up to include Birds of Prey as ensemble performers in other DC movies. I am not sure about the character Cassandra Cain as she is quite different from her comic persona, but who knows Ella Jay Basco is likable and perhaps they will recon some of the fighting abilities of the comic book character in a future film or streaming show.

Columbine

With any tragedy, we want to immediately assess blame so that we can distance ourselves from the source of the tragedy. Directly following the blamed targets comes its publication in all digital and print media. It is a small amount, but I have noticed a few in the media not giving the shooter's facebook image and murder stats quite as readily as had been done in the past. Also helpful would not be necessarily arming individuals in the field of education who do not have the training of soldiers or police, but assisting these teachers, counselors, coaches and administrators to recognize mental illness or aberration. Weapons are a bandaid, but knowledge can provide both the cure and prevention.

Picard

a series in CBS All Access streaming service

Episode 1:

I think that the Picard series episode one attempted to link off of Star Trek: Nemesis,  not the best one in the series. Perhaps this episode tried a little too hard. When the series is completed, we'll see if Star Trek returns to its 24th (maybe 25th century if Picard goes a 2nd season) roots. Hang onto your tricorders, tribbles, and communicators. Cross your phasers and your fingers, there are 9 more episodes so maybe it will all work out.

COLLIDER CANCELS SHOWS - new release 01/02/2020

Comment posted to John Campea You Tube show on 01/03/2020

While maybe the shows were not economically sustainable, I did enjoy the Collider of "old" ("old" defined as being approximately 24 hours ago as of this comment) mixing online personalities with entertainment industry data. The reason I no longer watch much of "conventional" news is the talking head effect. I might as well just read it myself, without the makeup, stylized wardrobe and bright lights. I just hope that that Marc Fernandez had reached out to deliver the bad news way before the news release. Those talented, funny and charismatic people deserved at least that much respect.
