The House with a Clock in its Walls (2018)
(saw at a theater 09/24/18)
Imaginative set design, great acting by Cate Blanchett and Jack Black
The Jack Black baby scene was horrific, but I think that Eli Roth did it on purpose in order to give the audience a kind of a body horror effect while staying within a PG format. It reminded me of one of the final scenes in a really old movie, The Fly (1958).
I saw this as a matinee. It was me and 10 other adults. That transformation scene towards the end of the movie was, well kind of disturbing for me. I flashed back to another concluding scene in a 1958 horror movie (starring Vincent Price), also with a disturbing transformation. The dialogue in this film, even with a few "big" words, still seemed a bit simplistic but entirely appropriate given the PG rating. I heard a reviewer refer to this movie as having a very hard PG rating. After seeing this film, I agree.
