The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)

an original Netflix movie - watched 08/14/2018

This movie is beyond romantic with humor, smart dialogue, beautiful cinematography, an evocative score, with full dimensional (aka character) acting from 100% of the cast and most importantly, a very satisfactory not sappy conclusion. While the movie does start slow, it never bores, but lightly draws in the attentive viewer. Watch the faces, the body language and even the locations, there is so much to see...just watch and listen.

Lily James is the acting standout, but amazingly every performance, every bit of dialogue made me feel that these people were real and I knew all of them. The most unique, powerful message of reading and loving the classics is sprinkled throughout this movie. Message movies often use a heavy hand while giving the viewer almost a virtual headache from the enormity of the theme or message that it blasts into a viewer's consciousness.  This movie's themes are much more easily absorbed and understood. Stay with this movie, it is worth the time.
