JUNE 2022

Posted to Dr. Todd Grande (RE: Depp vs Heard Lawsuit Results) uploaded to You Tube 06/01/2022

Between Jussie Smollett and Amber Heard, celebrity status has not been kind towards any abused group or individuals. Johnny Depp "won" against an opponent who is obviously mentally ill. Judging by the performance of her defense team, I highly doubt that even they were told the truth. I wish the jury could have come to a conclusion that was more neutral. For example only awarding Johnny Depp the entire amount of his divorce settlement to Amber Heard without assigning punishment/defamation. Now that would have sent a message.

Posted to Footless Jo (RE: New Leg and Upcoming Hike) uploaded to You Tube 06/01/2022

One vote here to watch whatever Jo wishes to share concerning prosthetics and certainly the hike with Sophie. I think that several millennia ago hiding and distrust of the unfamiliar, helped us survive. In current times we need to grow beyond that old distrust. So show it all, the leg, its care, its use, its challenges. Let's make it familiar and not scary.

Posted to Footless Joe (RE: Leg spasm) uploaded to You Tube 06/04/2022

This is going to sound weird, but it looks like the human equivalent of when I enter too many commands too quickly onto my MAC (before the prior one was processed) resulting in a buffering /glitching as if it were confused. Essentially being confused is the human equivalent of a program being stuck in a loop. So I am guessing that there are still nerve endings that are sending messages to the brain which results in "glitching"? Wonder if that glitch is related to the random phantom pain syndrome?

Posted to Hazariel Costumes (RE: Rocco Dress- part 2) uploaded to You Tube 06/03/2022

That was a beautiful mashup of a French 18th century dress with decor via anime/manga art and orphan fabrics.  4,000 euros (equates to: 4280.24 USD as of this post) is a little out of my league, so I will admire it from afar. I did like the technique of dyed flowers painted with a touch of bleach and then sprayed with water to make the color look ethereal. Eau De Javel does sound très élégant. Good to know if I am ever in France attempting to get my clothes laundered (I am allergic to eau de javel)!  I went down a rabbit hole of languages trying to see if javel by itself meant something related to bleach in French. It does not, but in Swedish jävel means Cerberus (Hellhound).

BTW I love the idea of designing and creating dresses in all white, especially in several historical/fashion period styles to then paint/stain/color/adorn into a color-filled design. I just saw (on You Tube as I travel nowhere these days) a dress designed by Michael Cinco worn at Cannes Film Festival 2022 by Raline Shah. It was painted (I assume by hand not machine) in a trompe l'oeil style. It was unbelievable and yet still classically beautiful.

Posted to The Dodo (RE: Sonny the shepherd's reaction to Baby) uploaded to You Tube 06/06/2022

Sonny is a beautiful, smart and intelligent dog. That being said, yes you can at least partially prepare a dog for a new resident. Expose the dog to crying sounds either strictly audio or online with images. Get all the baby supplies out and about, so the dog can smell things from the crib to a box of diapers and even clothing or a bib. When the baby is born take a blanket/towel that the baby has come in contact with and allow the dog to smell (but not play with) the material before the baby comes home. Rub the towel/blanket on the dog gently. After any contact with baby things, baby smells, baby noise, if the dog handles it to your satisfaction reward the dog with a treat or whatever the dog loves (a toy, a walk, praise).

Sure even after all this prep, some dogs cannot adapt. However, many dogs do adapt especially with proper training and human attention.  As with all things there is the ubiquitous warning: never leave the dog alone with an infant.

Posted to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (RE: School Police) uploaded to You Tube 06/06/2022

The root problem of these tragedies is inadequacies.  Inadequate gun sale laws, inadequate mental health assessments and inadequate medical insurance coverage make for a challenging problem that governments appear to be reluctant to even address, never mind implement solutions.  As for assuming that schools can handle these situations, we have the very odd occurrence of a school giving a student arrest record for a science project, the arrest of a 5 year old and then a Michigan school system that, along with the local police department in December, 2021 allowed an extremely troubled teenager back into school. Proof of mental health issues and violent intent did not result in any help for the teen who then returned to the classroom and acted on those violent impulses with tragic results.

Posted to Sierra Schultzzie (RE: Old Navy shopping) uploaded to You Tube 05/13/2022

For affordability and (size/color) predictability I always buy Old Navy jeans. I have not shopped in the "real" world (excluding grocery and CVS) anywhere in SO long. Thanks for taking us along on the trip. BTW I would so get that black top: (1) wear with a chain or maybe a "corset-style" belt with lighter wash jeans  (2) wear with a glittery mini skirt with shirt hem tied up on one side to be asymmetrical (3) wear with skinny jeans and boots (4) pull back hair buy chandelier earrings and wear dark wash jeans with high heeled (maybe platform) boots. Full disclosure the majority of my closet is black along with a few outliers (tan, gray, brown, navy) so I am not impartial regarding that color!

posted to HauteLeMode (RE: Christopher John Rogers collection 10) uploaded to You Tube 06/08/22

Not sure what the full collection contains, but I could not find an outfit that I didn't like among those shown here. While admittedly I am a neutral (black, grey, tan navy, cream) type of person, if I could afford to buy CJR creation I would certainly try color. The clothing has such fantastic shapes, silhouettes and classic lines. I do not know if the sizing is inclusive, but many of the styles can probably be worn by a wide assortment of customers.

posted to Runkle of the Bailey (RE: Posts by Michele Landis-Dauber Stanford Law Prof) 06/08/2022

I was rather annoyed also!  I did a quick search on her. https://law.stanford.edu/directory/michele-landis-dauber/

She teaches courses on campus sexual assault law.  https://law.stanford.edu/courses/?tax_and_terms=20212022&instructor=4490&page=1

Looking at her info (at least provided by Stanford) she seems eminently qualified as a professor and even her personal life (spouse and 5 children) seems good. Burn-out maybe? She probably hears about a lot of college students who are not believed or taken seriously during the investigation of assaults. Going on social media to make these kind of posts seems odd and of course unprofessional. She is a PROFESSOR so why doesn't she write a book of a scholarly paper on this subject including data to back up her views? Were I the suspicious sort, I might assume she has an article or book about attorneys who are women that is close to publication.

Posted to Dan Murrell (Review: Jurassic World Dominion [2022] ) uploaded to You Tube 06/10/2022

While some of the character work was rough, I did enjoy Jurassic World (2015). I treated Fallen Kingdom (2018) as a comedy and it worked for me in that format. Well, except for one horrific scene when the humans leave the about to be destroyed island while hearing the plaintive bellowing of the doomed creatures, including that adorable (?)Brontosaurus. Probably I will see World Dominion streaming, but I do not want to see anything like the sad Brontosaurus scene.

Posted to Channel Awesome (RE: The Fifth Element/nostalgia critic) uploaded to You Tube 06/08/2022

As an "adult" (by age not inclination) not too many movies from my childhood live up to my original opinions. I loved this movie then and I still love it now.

Posted to Dr. John Campbell (RE: Link between Neanderthal gene and COVID severity) 06/10/2022

According to a DNA site, my genetic structure contains 2% Neanderthal genes. Not the exotic mix I was hoping for when I entered the system!  Interestingly full-blooded Neanderthal were typically stockier than early modern humans with a larger lung capacity along with a probable need for more oxygen. Not sure about Omicron variant, but the Delta variant seemed to target the lungs in the later portion/more deadly period of the infection.

Posted to Roxxsaurus (RE: BooHoo X Megan Fox collection) uploaded to You Tube 06/12/2022

My favorite was the long silvery (a bit sheer) gown. I looks so well made! So beautiful. I agree that with a bandeau, bike shorts or body-con/shaper the wearer would be gala-ready. Everything else...well I do not like orange (or some of the fit of the orange items). Most of the other items seemed to need judgement by experts in the category of, "Is it cosplay or clothing".

My favorite Megan Fox movie is Rogue (2020). She is literally the hero of the movie while looking good and being in control of her team. As for the movie itself, well I will leave that to critics.

Posted to Mia Maples (RE: Costco/Freezer Storage) uploaded to You Tube 06/12/2022

I did enjoy this video. I do like to watch any hauls (admittedly gowns are my favorite). It is SO satisfying to watch things being organized and put away. One question though, are you keeping an inventory? Just to know if maybe in the future there should be more of this or less of that or whatever. That soup freezing item is genius! I also put left over soup in the fridge which usually results in it being pushed back and thus forgotten about or kept in front causing turmoil (spilled soup) in other food items. I tell you this from experience, chicken noodle soup does not mix well with chocolate pudding.😳

Posted to Jelly Fish Film Reviews (RE: Jurassic World Dominion review) You Tube 06/09/2022

Basically I love almost any movie with dinosaurs in it, but even I have acquired "Jurassic Fatigue". I know because rather than entertain me, this movie makes me think of the damage invasive species (plant and animal) have done.  Forget eating people and harming landmarks, we would be out of food, shelter and the internet in a week. And giant flaming locusts (why does that sound like an indie band) was that the only way they could insert the OG cast, really? Love these reviews, funny, informative and always entertaining.

Posted to Dr. Todd Grande (RE: Life and Death of Anthony Bourdain) - You Tube 06/12/2022

So much of what Dr. Grande said resonated with me. The unexpected death of a man so talented who had a daughter and so much to live for, hit me very hard. Hearing Dr. Grande explain a possible scenario of why this happened has somewhat eased my thoughts. Now I realize that Anthony Bourdain died from a treatable disease that went undiagnosed and/or unmonitored. A tragedy should not define or negate the important things that Mr. Bourdain did with his life. However, I still find seeing video of him traveling, laughing and eating difficult to watch the way that I once did.

Posted to John Campea (RE: Peter Rice firing) uploaded to You Tube 06/13/2022

Regarding the sudden firing of Peter Rice, it all comes down to money. When is the next Disney shareholder's meeting, March 2023? They will follow the moneymaker. I am not sure what Disney's mission statement is, but creativity should be high on a list of attributes to which this company must adhere. They bought Marvel, LucasFilm and Fox, so they have literally bought themselves time and inventory. Creativity is the only way they can enlarge their inventory and add subscribers to their streaming channel. Disney corporate needs to realize this before people get tired of seeing live action versions of old animated films because the number of movie studios available for sale is not getting bigger.

Posted to John Campea (RE: Disappearance of Ezra Miller) uploaded to You Tube 06/13/2022

If the past few years of Ezra Miller's life were in a film, critics would be saying, this movie is over-stuffed with details, it is unbelievable, this could not happen.  I agree that regarding this disappearance of Ezra Miller and Tokata Iron Eyes, that we may not know the truth. Based on Ezra Miller's past escapades, I am not hopeful that this disappearance is simply a misunderstanding. If this does turn out to be bad, I would say that the Flash movie starring Ezra Miller is unreleasable.

Posted to Runkle of the Baily (RE: Juror [Depp vs. Heard tria] interview) uploaded 06/16/2022

I am going to use the phrase "too soon" regarding juror interviews.

With the law tube coverage and analysis along with the trial being so easily accessed on various streams, we already know too much about this disaster of a marriage and divorce. I cannot imagine what the stress of this 6 week-long trial has had on those jurors. No matter how emotionally and physically resilient these people are, I would like to see at least several months pass by before they tell their experiences. Being crass, a bit greedy and pragmatic, I would hold out for a book deal with a late 2022 or early 2023 turn in date. Writing a book would also be an excellent way of systematically understanding the changes and experiences that these jurors have undergone along with their motivations for the verdict.

posted to Justine Leconte officiel (RE: New home in south of France, Provence) uploaded 06/19/2022

I love that credo, "renovate but, respect the soul of the house". I would get a local artist to put that on a plaque and hang in a prominent location.  I agree the kitchen and bathroom should be done first. The kitchen ceiling is beautiful, however definitely let someone check it for stability.
Just before he appeared on screen, I was going to suggest an owl for pigeon control! I wonder, perhaps hang several wind chimes? If chime sounds would be annoying then make your own silent ones. However do not use metal, choose something that can stay intact during the rain while moving in the wind. I have no idea if this will work, but at the very least it is an excuse to visit the shops in town to purchase brightly colored and "quiet" objects to hang, hooks (or just nails) and fishing line.

posted to Dr. Todd Grande (RE: Amber Heard's post trial interviews) uploaded to You Tube 06/18/2022

I am sure it is illegal, unethical and impossible, but I wish the court could have sentenced Amber Heard to at least 365 days of therapy from a someone recommended or approved by Dr. Curry. When therapy was completed to the court's satisfaction, the financial judgements by the jury (not her own attorneys' costs, she would still have to pay that), would be reviewed, perhaps with amounts lowered. Amber Heard's immediate future as an actor does not appear to allow her to pay money (10,350,000.00 usd) owed for the judgements regarding defamation, punishment and Depp's legal fees.

posted to Uncivil Law (RE: multiple subjects including trans athletes) uploaded to You Tube 06/19/2022

Full disclosure, it took me 2 semesters to pass one semester in college biology. So all I can offer are hypotheticals.

I am sure there are exceptions due to genetics or illness, but for athletes isn't there a biological range regarding muscle and bone density regarding XX or XY individuals of any age? There is so much emotion regarding trans individuals, why not reduce the verdict on participation in competition to numbers determined by an MRI or CT and a DEXA scan? There will always be exceptions, those can be addressed on a case by case basis.

posted to Rachel Maksy (RE: Dress Casual) uploaded to You Tube 06/20/2022

The dress codes from hell can be found on many wedding invitations..."casual cocktail", "creative formal" and the dreaded, because you cannot successfully consume most wedding food in it, "black tie".  My dream invite would say, "dark washed jeans, any style tee shirt and flats". Not going to happen, in my social group.

posted to Karolina Zebrowska (RE: Memes on Marilyn's ruined dress) uploaded  06/21/2022

While all the memes are deserved, unfortunately the point is completely lost on the target. Anybody remember what word Kim K. was going to copyright regarding her shape-wear line? Suffice it to say, the action was beyond clueless and was a basically a massive ad for her new company at zero cost. The cost of any legal filings would be tax deductible by the U.S. tax service (IRS) as the legal matters would be business-related.  The current owner of this gown, is not a prestigious museum or a fashion institute. The current owner is a place that showcases "...animal oddities, pop-culture memorabilia...".  So the blame does not start with Kim.

Posted to Rachel Maksy (RE: New Studio Tour) Uploaded to You Tube 06/24/2022

Well the new studio is no longer suitable for the next "Saw" or "Halloween" movie, but it looks fantastic for filming, especially with keeping the touches like the original beams. I hope to also make make it to the Boston event, perhaps in *non-competitive (*euphemism for "I cannot sew") cosplay. I assembled my outfit from thrift shops and Amazon **BEFORE the pandemic (**another euphemism for before I consumed most of the ice cream in my area of the Northeast, U.S.). Congrats on the reno, it was fun to see the before and after. BTW loved that lace blouse.

Posted to Dr. Todd Grande (RE: Release of Laundrie notebook) uploaded to You Tube 06/25/2022

I completely agree with Dr. Grande. It appears that Laundrie was clueless and self-centered literally to the end. Strangulation is not a quick way to kill or a quick way to die. I hope the release of the contents of this notebook make a difference. Especially concerning law enforcement behavior when a couple obviously in distress are stopped or interact with police. A social worker/professional in psychological evaluations should be immediately consulted before a couple is released. Legally the Laundrie parents seem immune to punishment, but probably not immune to the results that appear when their last name is Googled.

Congratulations! This channel inspires me to do the little things, make a vent in sleeves, replacing a zipper, changing/adding fasteners. This is BIG for someone (I am not joking ) who almost failed 2 classes in high school, culinary arts and sewing. This channel along with Morgan's and Abby's gives me the encouragement and confidence to take a thrifted item and make it my own. Plus you guys are a lot of fun.

Posted to Taylor R (RE: 30 day Chinese Confinement after birth) You Tube 06/27/2022

Chinese confinement seems such a logical and healthy way to navigate the beginning steps of the journey of the new mom and baby. Initially I had disagreed with the no air conditioning and no hair washing (although I too have long hair and enjoy the idea of a hair vacation), but am pleased that confinement rules have been updated. Carol has a great sense of humor and positivity. What a gift that must be to all of her clients. THANK YOU so much for sharing such a personal experience. I wish Western healthcare was as nurturing for all.

Posted to Little Adventures (RE: 5 things guinea pig owners won't tell you) You Tube 06/26/2022

Everything said is so very true. Your home is never clean for long. As for the cage itself, well I would need a timer in microseconds to come up with that number. I have had recent deaths, so I truly understand the down times. However when my pig or my chinchilla (separate cages) responds to her name, licks me and just looks cute, I know that I will continue to share my life (and surrender my OCD) to being around such cuteness.

Posted to Katie Couric (RE: Texas Anti transgender laws) uploaded to You Tube 06/28/2022

Amber Briggle is right, no one was paying attention. We can no longer laugh at antiquated views or stupidity or ignore prejudice, unfortunately that gives this "virus" time to spread. The only vaccine I can think of is being an active voter and thoroughly investigating the policy statement of the people that you vote for in an election. In the meantime, I hope ACLU and Lambda Legal organize a class action suit. Last time I checked, at least for the moment, in the U.S. we are considered innocent until proven guilty (amendment 5 to the U.S. constitution).

Posted to Dr. John Campbell (RE: Antibodies in children + Omicron variant B5) You Tube 06/28/2022

Omicron BA5 is more transmissible because it is different enough from previous variants to infect people whose immunity lies with older variants. However, is there any sign that these newer variants such as BA5 of being more virulent, increased rate of deaths and likelihood danger of "long COVID"?  Keep analyzing that data Dr. Campbell, as along with a healthy lifestyle, scientifically accurate information is quite powerful towards keeping us alive and well.

Posted to Breakfast All Day (RE: Entertainment News) uploaded to You Tube 06/28/2022

The Green Day singer (Billie Joe Armstrong) has every right to renounce his U.S. citizenship. While he will never read this, I would ask him to continue his U.S. citizenship. We are in dire need of strong, passionate and intelligent people to vote our current slate of politicians who have more hubris than brains out of office.  As for Alec Baldwin interviewing Woody Allen, (full disclosure: I did giggle at the thought of this happening) their total lack of self-awareness exceeds whatever talent either or both possess.  Sorry I have been ranting a lot lately.

Posted to Justine Leconte officiel (RE: Monroe Dress worn by Kim K. at 2022 Met Gala) 06/29/2022

I heard the Monroe dress was "too pricey" for a museum budget, but that is hearsay. Ripley and Kim K. wanted buzz and widespread advertising their respective brands, so for level attained. It might have been nice if Kim could have bought and donated the gown to a museum like the MET after ordering a replica (that fit her pre-crash diet weight) for the 2022 gala. It also might have been nice if Kim did not announce publicly that she had to lose so much weight so quickly, simply to fit into a dress. Supposedly Thomas Jefferson (the 3rd president of the U.S.) said that, “The government you elect is the government you deserve." I guess you can also rewrite this quotation to say that the celebrities that we raise up are the celebrities that we deserve.
